After so much of description of the Mansarovar Kailash Yatra, a tour of the place is a must. Go on these lines and you will find the shortest route to Kailash Mansarovar. Here is the shortest route you will find in this itenary :

Kathmandu – Mansarovar – Kailash – Kathmandu

Day 1 : Arrive at Kathmandu. Here stay overnight in a pre booked hotel.

Day 2 : See the beautiful land of Kathmandu. But don't walk much as there is a lot you have to cover in the coming days.

Day 3 : Fly to Nepalganj by a charter plane or a normal plane. You can also cover this distance on the back of a mule, but it will take days to reach the place.

Day 4 : Next morning after a heavy breakfast and packed lunch, take the route to Hilsa ( Nepal – Tibet Border). Cross the Friendship Bridge by foot and then walk a steep 700m uphill to the Chinese Check post called Shrey. ( Notice that photography at Shrey is strictly prohibited). After completing formalities, take an overnight stay here in a hotel. Pack your bags with snacks and put the woolens on the top as the temperature dips down from here. The best place to stay overnight is Talakot which is only 2 kms from Shrey.

Day 5 : Take complete rest in Talakot. Enjoy the food and the surroundings till the evening. In the have a sumptuous dinner for the early morning set up. Morning after breakfast, get on for the further journey.

Day 6 : From Talakot, hire a taxi, usually a jeep and ride on towards Mansarovar Lake. The most beautiful of all, it will surpass all your imagination. From here you will get to see a glimpse of Mansarovar Lake. You can stay here overnight in a lodge near Chiu Gompa.

One needs to be ready for the rough weather. The entire trip takes at least 4 – 5 days to complete one circle of Kailash Parvat/ Mountain. Overnight stay in a dormatry. You wont find any lodges from this point. From here you will have to stay in your own tents bearing the rough tents.

Day 9 : Move further to Dolma La Pass either on foot or on the back of a pony. From here begins the tough route. Even you hire a pony, still you have to walk afoot for a certain part of the trip. From here ride till Darboche/ Tarboche for the backwards journey.

Day 10 : Drive to the Shrey Border via Mansarovar, Rakshas Tal and Talakot. Walk down to the Friendship Bridge to Hilsa to Nepal. Once in Nepal you can take the bus back to India or stay in Nepal for a couple of days.
